A French Take on U.S. Politics

Amy Greene, a Franco-American political scientist and former student at Accent, gave an insightful talk this fall at the Accent Paris study center. Known for her expertise in U.S. politics, and as a prominent voice in French media following the 2024 U.S. election, Amy specializes in analyzing the United States’ political and social shifts and their broader implications. She teaches at both Sciences Po Paris and Boston University, where her courses explore American political dynamics, social movements, and international relations—and soon, she will be leading courses at Accent for University of California students and beyond!

Greene’s most recent book, L’Amérique face à ses fractures (2024), delves into the deep political and social divides in the United States, further cementing her position as a sought-after authority in both academic and policy-making spheres. Her work with Accent will advance her mission to bring a nuanced understanding of U.S. politics to diverse academic audiences, as Greene has worked with the University of California Education Abroad Program to develop a new fully customized course, which will match the specific needs of UCEAP students. Such opportunities for academic customization are always a possibility in programs developed with Accent.

During her talk this fall, Greene offered a clear and thorough breakdown of the election, analyzing the broader American political context and the likely consequences of the results. She also engaged with students and faculty in a dynamic Q&A session, addressing their questions with clarity and insight. Referring to her book, she made complex issues accessible even to those without a background in political science. Her intervention helped demystify the current political landscape, encouraging attendees to form informed and balanced opinions in response to the election. By emphasizing understanding over alarm, Greene’s talk was both educational and reassuring, leaving the audience better equipped to navigate the complexities of American democracy.
