Internship Opportunities in Madrid
As a major business and government hub, Madrid offers excellent opportunities for international internships. Students acquire valuable work experience while immersing themselves in a new environment. By exploring a different work culture, they experience significant professional and personal development.
Accent draws on an extensive local network to offer student internships across sectors. The hours of work and internship-related assignments are adapted to the needs of the sponsoring U.S. university and align with Spanish legal requirements. Internships are organized not only in local businesses and startups, but in NGOs, government offices, and think tanks as well.
The Accent Madrid team works within Accent’s existing network and also identifies new placements to match each student’s academic interests, language skills, previous experience, and future goals. Previous internships range across industries, including:
- Creative and strategic local advertising agency — advertising, marketing, communication, design
- Marketing, PR, communication: Sports marketing agency
- Education, psychology, linguistics: local primary and secondary school
- Medicine, biology, neuroscience: private health clinic
- Design, fine art: private art gallery and studio space
- Education, psychology, social work: NGO working with at-risk youth
- Entrepreneurship, computer science, data science: startup in the field of data management
- Gender studies, political science, sociology: NGO working with the LGBTQIA+ community
Accent is an on-site ally throughout the internship experience, from the placement process to the visa application to the actual internship with the host organization. The Madrid team meets with each student before their arrival through placement meetings, holds regular office hours, and routinely visits students in their workplace.
Students enroll in a Workforce course, designed to introduce and analyze the cultural, historical, and economic factors impacting work in Spain. The course offers context on work in Spain, but also serves as a space for guided reflection on the internship experience to set and measure objectives, explore and resolve conflicts, and identify connections between the internship and future goals – personal, professional, and academic.
