Exceptional Design Opportunity

Rome
In this faculty-led studio, UC Boulder students of architecture and design create an environmental design project.

Each year, the program’s work is done within a different Roman neighborhood which is always outside the historical center and off the tourist track.

Customized and Rigorous
The program begins with an intensive course taught by local Accent faculty and an architectural historian called “The Layers of Rome: A Survey of Architecture, Planning and Community.” Next, students begin an environmental design studio project including a site analysis of an area chosen to expose the complexity of design challenges in the Eternal City. Throughout the course, students also have custom study tours to Venice, Ostia Antica and sites in Abruzzo impacted by the 2009 L’Aquila earthquake.

Expert Critiques

Dedicated studio space in our Rome Study Center gives the group the resources they need to develop and display their projects. The program culminates with student presentations critiqued by local architects, urban planners, and historians.
