Human Biology

Rome
In this summer program, human biology majors from MSU take intensive specialized courses at a prestigious medical school in Rome.

Local Opportunities

Students enroll at Università Cattolica’s School of Medicine and Surgery, one of Italy’s top medical schools. Cattolica’s faculty are all prominent academics with research profiles in the fields of human biology and health. Courses take place both in the classroom and in wet and virtual labs, allowing students to explore the use of familiar technologies and equipment in a different country.

Customized Courses

The program is designed specifically to provide study abroad opportunities for students in Human Biology, the largest major in the MSU College of Natural Science. Courses were developed to fulfill the requirements of this student population, while the custom cultural program was designed to introduce students to the history of medicine in Italy through tours and lectures throughout Rome. Students enroll in two intensive two-week-long programs, gaining a total of 6 credits. Courses taught in the past include:

  • Eukaryotic Cell Biology
  • From Molecules to Cells: A Translational Path Towards Novel Therapeutics
  • Epidemiology
